A Waco glider on display at the Airborne Museum in Sainte-Mere-Église. The Waco CG-4A glider was a key part of the Allied airborne strategy during WWII. Built mostly from wood and fabric, it could silently carry 13 troops, a jeep, or even a howitzer behind enemy lines. These gliders were used in major operations like Normandy, Market Garden, and the crossing of the Rhine. Pilots had one chance to land—no engine, no second tries.
