Red fox are very susceptible to mange. Mange is caused by mites that burrow in the skin causing irritation and hair loss. Fox will then scratch their skin causing inflammation and sometimes secondary skin infections. As you can see, this little guy has so much irritation from the mange and scratching that his eyes are almost swollen shut. This makes it so they cannot hunt for food, therefore these fox end up in a downward spiral of infection, starvation, and not being able to keep warm in cold t
