How you can use the 'magic' augmented triad for learning minor triad shapes. Raise any note from the augmented 'template' and it becomes the Root note of a close voicing minor triad. Depending which string you raise will determine in which inversion the triad is. E augmented triad !! An open voiced triad is built by moving the middle note of a closed voicing up on octave. E augmented triad (close voicing) = E (root) , G# (major third) , B# (augmented fifth). To build a open voicing, you have to move the middle note that is G# an octave up.
