Louie Anderson (1953 to 2022) His most intimate performance came at the very end of his career. He spent five seasons playing his own mother. On the FX series “Baskets,” Anderson portrayed Christine Baskets, a warm, overbearing woman from Bakersfield and the mother of twin adult sons, both played by Zach Galifianakis. The show was surreal and deadpan, but Christine grounded it. She fussed, she forgave, she held it all together. Anderson played her with quiet sincerity. No affect, no caricature.
