This compact device, known as a cam or spring-loaded camming device (SLCD), can be a lifesaver for climbers. Rock climbing is a high-risk sport where even a small error can lead to serious injury or worse. This particular type of retractable mechanical cam is designed to protect climbers in wide rock cracks, where traditional cams may not work effectively.
